Teacher Jobs - For Local
and International Schools

There is a wide array of teacher jobs and teacher assistant jobs on the market, and most information is available on the internet. Teaching vacancies are abundant not only for local school jobs but also international school jobs and ESL teaching jobs. A higher standard is needed for teachers today more than ever because of the increasing world-wide approach in education and the rise of international standards through organizations such as the International Baccalaureate (IB) Organization.

Teacher jobs sites on the internet are increasing, evidencing the need for more teachers or, better yet, for quality teachers. Teaching employment has become more competitive now because more and more future teachers become qualified not just for local, but also for international school employment. The International Baccalaureate, with its two distinct programs – the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) – imposes different qualifications for teachers.

Among the requirements for some (although not all) jobs in international schools is the fluency in more than one language, the national language, and another language not necessarily used in the country. Another requirement is the ability not only to teach English but to teach ESL or English as a Second Language. This would require that the applicant for the teaching job be themselves educated in an international setting.

This is the reason why the internet is the best means for international school recruitment. It reaches more people at more parts of the world than any other form of medium. Almost every job applicant and every prospective employer has access to internet job portals. International school openings, hence, are generally not limited to a particular geographical area but, more often than not, encourage teacher employment from around the globe. This removes the inter-country borders when it comes to teacher hiring.

The availability of teacher jobs is constant because the vacancies of international school jobs and teacher assistant jobs come and go. That is, some are filled yet there are always jobs that become vacant and would require a new teacher. On one hand, one who desires an international teaching job but is not yet qualified need not worry because local teaching jobs are easier to get and may serve as the best training ground for more difficult forms of teaching.

Directories of resources for teaching jobs are also on the internet, giving the new recruit a wide variety of choices, and they may make the choice based also on his or her needs as well as the community’s. Some jobs give higher monetary pay than others but then for some, particularly the new teacher, the rewards are measured not only by money but by his or her learning experience to be gained.

Teaching skills are learned in school, not just as a student taking up a course in education, but more so, in the practical exercise of actual teaching. Teacher jobs are meant not only for the student’s betterment but also for the new and future teacher, who is also a student in the field of education.
